As US parents of a child diagnosed with Autism, Bill and Robin Puerner experienced the difficulties and victories of helping their daughter, Moya, learn how to communicate and grow in the world around her. In 2014 they heard the plight and devastating stories of children with special needs in developing countries and immediately felt a burden to raise awareness for those with Autism, Down Syndrome, and Deafness. They recognized the need for education and therapy to be made available to children with special needs in these areas of the world. Our team at the MOYA Foundation is endeavoring to do just that. We are dedicated to giving hope and the possibility of a future to these children, their families, and their communities.
Education
We believe that with the proper educational tools in place, many children with special needs can grow into adulthood to lead happy lives as contributing members of society. Some exceed the average education when an exceptional strength is recognized in one particular academic subject. With a Christian based education, classroom integration, and acceptance, children with extra needs in education can learn to grow side by side with neuro-typical children in their communities and schools.
Therapy
There are many therapies that can be tailored to help a child with extra needs in education, communication, life skills, etc. These therapies can assist teachers, parents and family members in increasing the interaction and quality of life of their loved one with special needs. We believe milestones can be reached through types of therapies such as; bio-medical therapy, behavioral therapy, music therapy, integrative listening therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy, among others.
Destiny
Children with special needs around the world are hidden, neglected, and suffering because their needs are not understood. However, every child has been fearfully and wonderfully made and each one has a special purpose. We want to unlock their potential and recognize that each one has their own destiny. Our hope is to give children with special needs and non-neurotypical behaviors the same opportunities as a neurotypical child.
